window treatments
From curtains to blinds, there's a lot to consider. We look here to our project Dudland Hollins in the Ribble Valley and why we made the selections we did.
Window treatments is a blanket phrase for the wide gamut of window dressings available. It’s important because in some shape or form, they are essential in every home. While their dressing plays a pivotal role in the all-important aesthetic, their function is even more valuable given their impact to affect temperature, light dispersion, and privacy. As with most things in interior design, the choices and types are endless and overwhelming. Whether to go for a classic French pleat drape, a ceiling hung wave track curtain, fabric romans with a leading edge, plantation shutters, blackout roller blinds or sheer voiles, or a mix of all the above, the job is enough to stop you in your tracks. You'll see in our portfolio a variety of window treatments in all of our projects which we selected to suit the style of each property and project, the window treatments play a huge job in supporting the look of a room.
We're still in the process of renovating this property and usually window treatments would be the last item to install in the process, however the client just could not stand the old curtains. The curtains in this property were fussy and blocked a lot of light from the rooms and hid the beautiful views to the surrounding countryside. Therefore, after working together to create an overall home concept we felt confident on this occasion to prioritise their design and installation. This is a grand country cottage style house and we wanted to honour it, complimenting the natural materials of stone and wood throughout. The house also has a contemporary industrial twist with the black metal windows. By using the architectural materials and pallet of the property to inform the interior decor you create rooms which have a unity and cohesion in design. So the style direction of the home became based around wood, stone and metal, using neutral tones, natural fabrics and a sense of bringing nature in.
The fabric choice was key, and we chose it to should relate to the room style we chose a mix of linen and cotton fabric for a casual, relaxed feel in plain and subtle weaves in neutral tones for a warm and welcoming room. Tasteful white and off-white curtains are enjoying a phase right now. They are stylish and elegant and work in many design schemes; these made the rooms feel fresh, the windows wider
By taking the curtains as high and as wide as we could, setting them back from the windows, we were able to give the illusions of a taller space and larger lighter windows. Then we selected pared back contemporary powder-coated black industrial tracks and rods. See our gallery below for the below and after.
